Hellboy

My lovely boyfriend gave me this amazing Hellboy deluxe action figure, and I absolutely love it.
It is SWEET - it's big, articulated, with awesome details and even a couple of different hands you can change, plus it just looks rad. I'm really excited for Hellboy II - The Golden Army too, so in that spirit, I did a sketch of Hellboy in Photoshop.

It is quite possibly the suckiest Hellboy sketch ever, but well... I tried. Hellboy is one of the characters I find most difficult to draw, I guess I need to practice!

A Couple of Buzzes

I love Buzz Lightyear. I mean, Toy Story is one of my favorite Disney movies, and Buzz is super cool. Woody was actually my fav on the movies, but no one can resist Buzz. And that being said, I did a couple of Buzz sketches yesterday.

This first one was done traditionally, in my sketchbook.

This one was done on Photoshop, with a brush that mimics pencil. I'm still trying to get used to using that pen to draw!

Enjoy... to infinity and beyond!

Random 1

Since I bought the tablet, I've been using it mainly for coloring traditionally drawn artwork. For some reason, I don't feel comfortable drawing with it. But I think that it might be a matter of practice, so I plan to do little bits and sketches, to get used to the the brushes, and to learn to control the digital linework better.
In that spirit, I drew this little random dude directly on PS, and colored very sloppily... but hey, whatever, it's still practice ;) enjoy!

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince

This week, a new set of promotional pictures from the upcoming Harry Potter movie was released. They don't show anything special, but I'm posting them anyway, in case there's any fan of the series out there.

You can see them all at IGN.

I'm looking forward to this movie, because all though Order of the Phoenix was a bit weak, they have been improving as they advance through the movies, and the growing darkness of the story and of the characters is kind of appealing.
Being a fan of the books, it's hard to be pleased with a simple movie, but I'm very curious to see how this turns out anyway.

Nny Dome

Nny, also known as Johnny the Homicidal Maniac, is a creation of Jhonen Vasquez. He's a serial killer, riddled with problems and doubts about existence and society, and the comic he stars in is some of the funniest, most violent, things I ever read. I highly recommend reading it if you like dark humor, angular drawings, and irony.

Thriller

When Michael Jackson wasn't completely batshit insane, he did some pretty nifty pop music for his time. And with it, he did some bery memorable videos - the most memorable being, probably, Thriller.

I have to admit, when I was a kid, I was scared to death of this video (for some reason, zombies in organized coreography terrified me), so I have a past with it, a sort of fascination with Thriller. Dancing zombies. Yeah, that was pretty awesome for the 80s.

I confess sometimes I try to mimic those dance moves. It's sad to know that the undead can actually dance better than me.

Dragon Ball - The Movie

Ok, I don't intend on keeping this blog exclusively for sketches, and I plan on approaching movies, music, comics and whatever else on my posts, as I always have until now, whenever I have the will/time. In that spirit, today I want to discuss this:

Now tell me this... am I the only one who thinks this looks like complete and utter crap? (by the way, that is rethorical. I know I'm not.). It looks so cheap and poorly done. Like someone just pasted a lot of shit together in photoshop and tried to tie it all together with red swirls and lens flares. Look at Piccolo's evil eyes in the background... that is horrible. Not to mention that the characters are all wrong. Can you even tell Chow Yun Fat is supposed to be Master Roshi? He has NONE of the character's traits. And it's not like it would have been complicated to make the character look like it did in the anime/manga: just shave your head and grow a beard and put some sunglasses, and voilá! He wouldn't even need the turtle shell. But no. This crap is better.

Honestly though, I never had any expectations for this movie. I'm a huge Dragon Ball fan, and I've been since I was a kid. I've seen the whole anime (except GT, that sucks monkey balls) and read the whole manga. I think the source material is very difficult to successully adapt to the big screen on live action, and ever since the first casting anoucements that I think the actors are just wrong. The first photos I saw were so shitty, everything looked like it was straight out of a Power Rangers episode. And now this. If the guys in the graphic department can't come up with a better banner than this, then I imagine what's going on with the movie. Either it's gonna bomb or the director is purposelly releasing shit promotional material to throw us off, when in reality the movie is going to be all kinds of awesome.

But yeah, I don't think so. Oh well.

Dwight

I just recently got into The Office US, and I think it's delightful (I'm on the 3rd season, so please don't go spoiling anything for me). The characters are awesome, the actors do a great job, and the humor is, well, rather kick ass. So, after sketching a few of the characters, I decided to throw some super quick colors on this little Dwight sketch.

Enjoy!

Patrick Bateman

I'm a big fan of the movie American Psycho. I know there's not a lot of people who appreciate it, but to me it's one of the best dark satirical movies ever, with great interpretations, twisted characters, awesome dialogue, and cheesy 80s music. Plus, you know - Christian Bale is bloody amazing in it. So here is a little sketch (very old-ish) of the sexiest movie serial killer ever, Patrick Bateman. If you'll excuse me, I have to return some videotapes.
