Scott Pilgrimage

If you've been reading my blog lately, you probably already realized that I think Scott Pilgrim is awesome.

You also may know that there is a movie in the works, directed by none other than Edgar Wright (awesome director of Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz). Well, Mr. Wright has a flickr account that he has been updating everyday with new shots of the cast and sets of the movie "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World", so I thought I'd share it with you guys. Worry not: the photos are pretty un-spoilerish, and they're a lot of fun to browse through. Head over to Edgar Wright's flickr by clicking here.

Bryan Lee O'Malley, Scott's creator, also has a flickr account, that he regularly updates with convention sketches, comic thumbnails, con photos and lots of other cool stuff. I've had a blast going through the gallery, and I hope you do too, by clicking here.

And, since we're on the Scott subject, I'm taking the chance to pimp myself out and show you the Scott Pilgrim piece I finished a few days ago (in case you still didn't see it on my deviantart).

If you want to see more of my drawings, be awesome and click here, hopefully you'll enjoy it!

Scott Pilgrim Vs. the World to feature good old hand drawn animation!

That's true fellas, folks at /Film report that the movie will feature sequences of traditional animation.
It is unknown which part of the film will be animated, but I agree with the speculation that it will probably be the fights Scott has to engage in with Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends. In the comic, the fights play out a lot like a video game, with special moves and the enemies being turned to coins after being defeated, and it could look silly if it was all live action. Honestly I think this is an ingenious move on Edgar Wright's part and it has the potential to make the movie that much cooler.
Traditional animation! Weeeeeee!

Scott Pilgrim vs. The World fills up its cast

For those of you who don't know, Scott Pilgrim is a comic book series by canadian author Bryan Lee O'Malley, that revolves around the character of the same name.

"The series is about 23-year-old Canadian Scott Pilgrim, a slacker, hero, wannabe-rockstar, who is living in Toronto and playing bass in the band "Sex Bob-Omb." He falls in love with American delivery girl Ramona V. Flowers, but must defeat her seven "evil ex-boyfriends" in order to date her."

I just recently finished the first volume of the series and found it to be a very well-balanced mix of coolness, nerdyness, and wittiness. It was great and I can't wait to read more volumes. Now that I read some Scott Pilgrim, I feel a little more excited to see a movie about it - especially directed by Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz).

As fas as casting goes, Michael Cera ("Juno", "Arrested Development") has been attached to play Scott for a while, and I don't really see him as such. He's really gonna have to break out of his awkward-kid shell to be Scott, because Scott Pilgrim is geeky, yes - but cool, self-assured and a rocker at that. We'll see.
Kieran Culkin will be Wallace Wells (Scott's roommate) Mary Elizabeth Winstead will play Ramona Flowers (Scott's love interest); Ellen Wong will be Knives Chau (Scott's girlfriend at the time he met Ramona Flowers) plus Chris Evans and Brandon Routh will both play two of Ramona's evil ex-boyfriends.

It's a diverse casting, and I hope it works so we'll see a great movie later on this year.
While we're at it, I recommend you read the comic... the art is great, and the writing is very clever and witty. Give it a chance!
